Even though I'd been paying 1&1 for my internet access the whole time we were gone, we came back to find, NO INTERNET.
Tried calling 1&1's 0900/100 01 81 number to find out why I had no service despite paying the whole time. Calling their help line costs 92 cents/minute!!! But then I found a land line 0721/9600.
Turns out because I had the phone service disconnected during our absence, 1&1 couldn't provide the internet service. That meant I had to pay Telekom 59€ to restart our phone service, so 1&1 could restart my internet service. But when I called 1&1 to say I now had my phone service, and ask why there was still no internet service, they said they needed a 59€ restart fee for them to restart the Internet as well. Such a scam (despite my being forced to pay them for 9 months we didn't use their service, they disconnect me and will only reconnect me by charging me as a new customer).
Sept. 11/In the end, I was so annoyed that I cancelled 1&1, but wrote a letter explaining the situation requesting the 150€ I'd paid for the time they were unable to provide service. In return, I got the typical form letter saying I need to finish my contract (basically paying them 9 months, despite their not providing any service). Scam. I've now gone to Telekom for service.
What kills me though is that I just saw an ad where 1&1 advertises they'll waive connection fees for new customers. If they had just waived mine, they would still have had me as a customer. And I was even paying more per month than the price listed in the ad. Honestly, sometimes I wonder about business's business sense.
And now I just got my September 1&1 bill and they are charging me PAST the time when my contract should have ended. Aagh. Never ending.
